Samurai movies

Packaging concept for the DVD series of classic works from samurai cinema – 7 Samurai by Akira Kurosawa, Goyokin by Hideo Gosha and Harakiri by Masaki Kobayashi.

As part of my packaging design course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź the task was to select films that work well as a series and then design packaging that reflects the stories, their mood and visual language. At that time I had a half-Polish half-Japanese colleague and I got very curious about Japan, its unique culture and tradition – that’s why I chose samurai movies as a subject for my series. The design was inspired by the traditional Japanese art origami and esthetics of kimono.
